Subject: No Lessons Dec 10 at VFW....Yes Lessons Wed Dec 17 at VFW...Country Dance Dec 21 Sunday

Greetings Dancers:

I regret informing you that the VFW has double booked again, so that means we are not having lessons this coming Wed, Dec 10. I apologize for the confusion, but I did not know this last week. We will have our last lessons for the year a week from Wed on Dec 17. George and Sandy will be on their way to Florida. We will review any of the dances you would like. We have a lot of them.

Sunday, Dec. 21, at 5:30, we will have our last Country Dance. We will make it a bring something to share and we will have a party. I will be leaving for Florida the next week so there will be no lessons until April 2015. I will be so ready to see all of you and share our time together on the dance floor in the spring. I am not moving to Florida but just visiting for the colder weather.

Again, NO lessons this coming Wed Dec 10. Yes lessons Dec 17. Be sure and mention the change to anyone so they do not come unnecessarily.

Hugs,
Marilyn :)

NO LESSONS AT VFW AUG 20....... 6:30 AT MARILYN'S INSTEAD

Greetings Country Dancers:

No dance lessons at the VFW this Wednesday August 20. They double booked so we are out until next week!

I am going to do something special this Wednesday Aug 20 at my condo. As some of you know I am down sizing on stuff, so that if I do decide to locate in Florida for a longer period of time, I do not have a lot to move or sell. Rod Lane, one of our dancers, is the Executive Director for Helping Hands in Spfld. I would like to invite all of you to come over to my place tomorrow evening, Wed. Aug 20, and purchase whatever items that may interest you. All of the money that I make on the items will be donated to Helping Hands of Springfield. You are then helping me relocate my worldly treasures and I am passing it forward to Helping Hands. I will be set up to teach a beginner line dance or two. A donation of $2 will go to Helping Hands as well. If you want to bring a simple snack, we can share!

I have a beautiful couch, a few nice chairs, two 8x10 wool rugs, 1 oriental rug, standing picture frames all sizes, baskets and containers, a large shop vacuum and other misc. items. Lora will graciously open her condo for us to use to chat and snack. Come on over at 6:30 and see if you can find anything you could use. Remember that all the money spent will be given to Helping Hands to help people less fortunate than us.

I have the VFW reserved for Sept 21, Oct 19, Nov 16 and Dec 21(Sunday Evenings) from 5:30 -9 to have a All About Country Dance. There will be a lot of floor space for all types of dancing at the same time. Line Dancers in the middle, Flow Dancers around the outside and a space for swing dancers. We had a great time at the last one... so this will be a good time to get together. These dances will be just like what we had in Decatur on Fridays.

See you August 27 at the VFW for Lessons and Dancing.

Hugs,
Marilyn

Wed June 9 VFW Line Dance Lessons

Big Shout Out to Line Dancers:

What a beautiful beautiful day!!! I am going to reteach Hootenanny this evening around 7:30. We will do it to the original song and then to Blood on the Dance Floor by Michael Jackson. I have a new very very easy beginner dance to a song I really like called Itsy Bitsy Spider that I will teach in the 6:30-7 time slot. Nice to have some really basic dances that you can sing along with the music without worrying about your feet.

I will mix in partner dances. We reviewed Invincible last week and we will do that again tonight.

Lessons as usual on Wed at the VFW except July 23. Lora and I will flying back from Dallas. So we will dance Wed July 9, 16, and 30. On July 30 we will celebrate and have cake for birthdays. The Aug 3 Sunday Country dance in canceled because the VFW double booked. I will look for a Sunday in Sept to reschedule. Sorry!  *:( sad

Hope to see you tonight!!!

Hugs,
Marilyn :)

Sunday Lesson West Coast Swing & Dance July 6 & 13 at VFW Old Jacksonville Rd Spfld

Greetings Dancers:

Plan to join me Sunday evenings on July 6 & 13 to learn some new concepts for taking our West Coast Swing up a step. This is a wonderful social dance that we can enjoy to many different styles and tempos of music. That being said, I will have a free beginner lesson from 5:30-6, new concepts and social moves from 6-7, and fun social practice dancing from 7-8:30 or 9. Cost for the lesson and dance is $10. Dance only is $5.

This weeks lesson will give you a simple but very effective approach to the left side pass, the tuck turn, the push break, and the whip. They can all be socially led and enjoyable for the follow. Come and check this amalgamation out! You won't be disappointed.

There were some scheduling problems with the Aug 3 date for the Country Dance, so that date is canceled. I will try to reschedule one for Sept..

Let's Do It!!!

Sunday Early Evening Lessons and Dance VFW Old Jacksonville Rd Spfld IL

Greetings Dancers:

I, Marilyn Ferry, will be having a lesson and dance at the VFW in Spfld IL at 2211 Old Jacksonville Rd on Sunday June 22, July 6, and July 13. There will be a free beginner lesson from 5:30-6 of whatever dance I am teaching that night. Then from 6-7 I will present a lesson where the dancer needs to have a working knowledge of the dance being taught. The lesson will be based on social dancing so the concepts and patterns will be doable and lead able. The main goal will be to really enjoy dancing and have fun. It is a lot more fun as a lead when you don't have to work hard at making a move happen. Likewise, it is more fun for the follow if she can relax and realize she did it and she's not sure how. Then, from 7-8:30 I will have a nice mix of music with an emphasis on the lesson that was taught that night.

On June 22 I will be teaching Country Two-step. From 5:30-6 I will present the basic rhythm and progression around the room. Then from 6-7 I will teach the use of WCS  meets C2-Step. This will be a lot of fun. During the dance I will have Two-step music slow enough you can practice and then increase the speed of the songs so you know you want to come back next week and continue to become comfortable with your new steps.

Not all songs will be Two-step. We will have a mix that gives all of us a chance to practice all the dances we enjoy so much. Each week the feature dance music will be played more frequently. Should be a lot of fun. The dance floor will be set up to be big so there will be plenty of room for learning dancers.

Okay, I imagine you are thinking what is the cost. The first half hour beginner lesson is free. This a good time to encourage someone to come and see what the dance is all about without pressure. The 6-7 lesson is $10 including the dance from 7-8:30. If you just want to come for the dance or take the beginner lesson free and then stay for the dance (the bar is open to us), there is a $5 fee. I hope you see this as a good chance to improve our skills and learn a few new things along the way.

July 6 & 13 the lessons will be West Coast Swing. Aug 3, I will be putting on a Country Dance with a mix of everything. You can do a lot of WCS to the music used for different Line and Pattern Partner dances. ChaCha, Rumba, Waltz, Triple Swing, Single Swing are all done and the room is big enough that there are areas for you to dance whatever your heart desires.

Feel free to communicate to me in regards to this new agenda. I hope you will come and try it out. You are welcome to bring snacks or food and the bar has pizza. For those who work Monday, there is plenty of time to get home and get ready for work.

Dancing Makes Me Happy,

We are ready to warm ourselves up with a lot of dancing. Hope to see you all. I have decided that we will celebrate birthdays for the month on the third Wed which was last week. I fixed a lemon sheet cake with very light icing. You are always welcome to bring treats any week if you desire.

See you tomorrow for lessons and dancing. Lots of laughs and exercise. Don't pass it up!

Here are some of the step sheets if you want to look the dance up on You Tube to practice. The sheet gives you the choreographer so you can tell which one to watch. I have to work on downloading You Are NO Angel and Dance Like You're the Only One.

This will keep you busy.
